DIPLOMA IN GENERAL NURSING AND MID-WIFERY TRANING PROGRAMME

DESCRIPTION OF THE COURSE:

The period of certified study and training of the G.N.M Nursing Diploma course shall be of three academic years , divided as follows [ as per INC] rules.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION:

Minimum education eligibility criteria for admission to General Nursing and Midwifery:

  • 10+2 with English and must have obtained a minimum of 40% at the qualifying examination and English individually from any recognized board. Candidates are also eligible from State Open School recognized by State Government and National Institute of Open School (NIOS) recognized by Central Government. However Science is preferable.
  • 10+2 with English having 40% of marks in vocational ANM course from the school recognized by Indian Nursing Council
  • 10+2 with English having 40% of marks in Vocational Stream-Health care Science from a recognized CBSE board/State/Centre
  • Registered ANM with pass mark.

Vacation = 4 weeks
Examination (including preparatory) = 2 weeks
Available weeks = 46 weeks
Hours per week = 40 hours
Hours available per academic year (1st & 2nd Year) = 1840 (46 wks × 40 hours) X 2=3680
Hours available for 3rd Year (Part I) = 960 (24 wks × 40 hours)
Internship (Part II) = 1248 (26 wks × 48 hours)

Eligibility for Admission to Examination

A candidate shall be eligible for the admission to the state Council / Board examination if the Principle of the school certificate that:

(a) She / he has completed not less than eleven months of the course
(b) A candidate must have minimum of 80% attendance (irrespective of the kind of absence) in theory and practical in each subject for appearing for examination.
The diploma shall not be awarded to the student till she / he has completed the clinical / field requirements.
(c) A Candidate must secure 50% marks in internal assessment separately in each theory and practical.
(d) The record of practical experience is complete.

(The Principal shall send to the Council / board the internal assessment for each subject, i.e. both theory and practical (S) before the start of the examination along with the examination form).

GRADING OF EXAMINATION

Examination shall be graded on aggregate marks of the entire three years of the training programme, as follows:

  • Distinction - 80% and above
  • First Division - 70% to 79%
  • Second Division - 60% to 69%
  • Pass - 50% to 59%

Examination guidelines
  1. Shall have one regular examination followed by supplementary examination in a year.
  2. If a candidate fail they can be permitted to next year
  3. A candidate can take any number of attempts with a condition that maximum period allowed is 6 years. However all previous papers need to be cleared before appearing in the final examination
  4. No institution shall submit student average internal marks more than 75% i.e., if 40 students are admitted in a course than the average score of the 40 students shall not exceed 75%.
  5. Example of 5 students: A=25, B=20, C=22, D=21, E=24 Average score=89.6%
  6. This will not be accepted by the State Nursing Registration Council
  7. Minimum pass marks should be 50% in each of the Theory and practical paper separately.
  8. Minimum pass marks shall be 40% for English only.
  9. Theory and Practical exams for Introduction to Computer to be conducted as School exam and marks to be send to the SNRC/ Board for inclusion in the mark sheet.
  10. A candidate has to pass in theory and practical exam separately in each of the paper.
  11. If a candidate fails in either theory or practical paper he/she has to re-appear for both the papers (Theory and Practical)
  12. Maximum number of candidates for practical examination should not exceed 20 per days.
  13. All practical examination must be held in the respective clinical areas.
  14. One internal and one external examiners should jointly conduct practical examination for each students.

Rules & Regulations in Hostel :

1. Each student must occupy the room allotted to her for the session by the wardens and no change of room shall be made without her permission.
2. No electric stoves, room heaters or electrical appliances etc. are allowed to be used. Student found guilty of misuse of electricity will be fined upto Rs.500/-each time.
3. No. student shall keep any unauthorized person in her room. If a student is found having a person in her room, she will be liable to summary expulsion.
4. In the event of mischief I foul play or accident etc. the warden can break the lock to open the room for investigation.
5. Whenever a student proposes to leave station or to remain outside the hostel for the nights she should obtain prior permission of the warden.
6. No students permitted to entertain as guest on any ground, any student of this college, who stands expelled from the college or the hostel. No student is permitted to entertain visitors or guests in the hostel after 7:00 p.m. Except with the prior permission of the warden.
7. Students are forbidden to utilize hosted servants as privates or abuse them in any way.
8. All complaints against hostel servants should be brought to the notice of the warden, who will investigate into the matter.
9. No student will argue, abuse or misbehave with the mess contractor I staff or vice visa. Complaint, if any should be brought to the notice of the warden immediately.
10. All the students shall, at all times conduct themselves in a disciplined manner inside the hostel.
11. Strict disciplinary action will be taken against any student found guilty of any personal violence or in abatement thereof.
12. Residents who do not observe the above said rules make themselves liable to fine or summary president expulsion or both.

➢ Parents, brothers, sisters are allowed to visit the ward with the permission of the warden.
➢ Name of relatives should be specifically mentioned by the respective parents, who can visit the ward.
➢ Parents must provide the address of relatives whom the ward can visit on holidays.
➢ Ward can visit home I relatives allowed by parents even on holiday. They must obtain written permission from warden one day in advance by submitting application.
➢ Male visitors are not allowed in hostel room.
➢ Wards cab leave the hostel only upto 5:00 p.m.
➢ The resident in the girls’ hostel will be treated absent in case she does not mark her evening attendance in time.
➢ Girls students are not allowed to wear shorts in the mess and hostel premises.
➢ The students found guilty of breach of these rules will be fined upto Rs.500/- each time.
Students are not allowed to keep any pets etc. in the hostel.

13. Students in their own interest should not keep large sum of money or any other valuable items in their rooms.
➢ In case of any theft of college property, it should be immediately reported to wardens.
➢ Any case of serious illness should be reported to the warden immediately.
➢ Each resident student is responsible for the cleanliness and good upkeep of the room allotted to her.
➢ She will be held responsible for the damages done to the room or its furniture and futures.
➢ If any student leaves the hosted and fails to handover in good order all the room furniture and fixture, will be liable to pay for any damages done.
➢ All lights and fans must be switched off, when leaving the rooms.
➢ All students are advised in their own interest to take breakfast , meals and snacks in the college mess and canteen.
➢ In case of any food poisoning due to their taking food at a place other than the hostel mess and canteen, the student will be personally responsible for the consequences.
➢ As room as the resident ceases to be a student of the college, her entitlement to stay in the hostel will cease automatically.
➢ Newspapers / magazines / journals etc. are to read in the common room only and should not be taken out.
➢ T.V. Set should be only operated by the authorised persons who are permitted to operate it; otherwise charges for repair etc. would be the responsibility of the defaulter.
